Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne
Kelowna-based Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne was recently awarded 2021 Blues Artist of the Year by the Western Canadian Music Awards. Supported by Creative BC's Career Development program, Wayne released his 13th album Go, Just Do It! in 2020. This album of 13 songs is his fifth recording for Stony Plain Records, and the results of another self-produced session.
You will find soul-tinged pieces artfully dovetailing with funky sojourns. Hot instrumental interludes can roll into a straight up blues tune that might draw on the talents of a guest like powerhouse vocalist Dawn Tyler Watson and the jazzy vocalist from the multi-Grammy winner Diane Schuur.
"This recording exceeded my expectations by the willingness of my favorite musicians and the wonderful and talented female guest who did a marvelous job. I then decided to have my son, Cory do a rap instead of an instrumental solo and it turned out great! I believe that the younger generation can identify with him rapping and that would reach out to a larger audience," said Wayne.
Wayne, an ex-pat American, became one of the beacons of the Canadian blues scene a couple of decades ago. His smooth yet robust piano playing, and cool and soulful vocals are injected into a canon of original tunes and covers, and the combination can take his audience on quite the journey.
