During the Documentary Film Festival, taking place from May 1 – 11, a special masterclass with award-winning filmmaker Baljit Sangra will explore the power of documentary film to reclaim overlooked histories and amplify underrepresented voices.
As a filmmaker deeply rooted in telling stories from the Indo-Canadian community, Sangra will discuss the challenges of bringing a lesser-known artist’s story to light, the role of resilience in storytelling, and the ethical considerations involved in honoring a subject’s legacy.
Her documentary BECAUSE WE ARE GIRLS, premiering at the festival, delves into gender-based violence and family dynamics within a conservative Indo-Canadian household.
Creative BC’s CEO, Prem Gill, will deliver opening remarks and welcome Sangra at the event. Learn more and buy tickets today on the official website.
