The company that "stands at the forefront of Vancouver's opera scene" (The Vancouver Project) has just launched Opera Treats: free, filmed opera programming that can be enjoyed by audiences at home and afar. Thanks to the support of Creative BC and the City of Vancouver, Mariposa spent the fall of 2020 prototyping safe and accessible musical practices – which led to the company's first recording project. Opera Mariposa also hosted a discussion about disability, accessibility, and inclusion in the operatic art form. Against the backdrop of a global pandemic, as well as an worldwide reckoning with systemic inequities, a diverse, multi-award-winning panel dove into everything from bringing music to high-risk audiences, to how a historic art form can embrace the future of storytelling – grappling with crucial questions, and sharing solutions for a more inclusive future.
