Code of Conduct for Creative BC Clients, Partners, and Stakeholders
As a catalyst for, and investor in B.C.’s creative industries, Creative BC is committed to supporting a healthy ecosystem that thrives in a culture of mutual respect, dignity and inclusivity that is free from any form of harassment, discrimination, and violence. Creative BC recognizes that the responsibility of creating and preserving a safe environment is a collective one and sets forth tenets within this Code of Conduct to govern interactions and relationships with Clients, Partners and Stakeholders (Clients and Partners).
This Code of Conduct compliments and supports Creative BC’s participation as a signatory of the Creative Industries Code.
Who
This Code of Conduct applies to all entities and individuals interacting with Creative BC in its activities, including clients (funders, clientele, applicants, and recipients), partners, service providers, and industry stakeholders.
When and Where
This Code of Conduct applies to all interactions with Creative BC, whether in-person, over the phone, via videoconference, by mail or email, through web-based platforms, application systems, on social media or in public forums.
Respect, consideration, and inclusion
Expectations
In their dealings with Creative BC, Clients and Partners are expected to act with integrity, treat everyone with dignity and respect and abstain from any form of harassment, violence, and discrimination. A respectful working relationship:
- embraces diversity
- values dignity of the person;
- applauds polite, courteous, and considerate conduct;
- promotes positive communication;
- promotes active listening;
- encourages considering how our actions affect others.
Harassment, violence, and discrimination
Access to Creative BC funding and support is not guaranteed. Creative BC does not tolerate any form of harassment, violence, or discrimination towards its staff. This includes, but is not limited, to:
- Insults
- Yelling
- Inappropriate or offensive remarks, jokes, insinuations or comments
- Intimidation and bullying
- Threatening remarks
- Discriminatory remarks or actions
- Threat of, or actual physical violence
- Unwanted verbal or written advances or persistent sexual propositions
- Physical violence of a sexual nature or forced unwanted sexual intimacy
Honest Representation
Trust is at the core of the relationship between Creative BC and its Clients and Partners.
In their dealings with Creative BC, Clients and Partners must act with honesty and integrity. This includes truthful representation and using Creative BC’s granting and tax credit program supports exclusively for the purposes detailed in the contractual agreements governing such supports. Giving false or misleading information in the tax credit application will result in automatic denial of the tax credits for the applicant and may lead to prosecution under the Income Tax Act (British Columbia)
Consequences
Creative BC’s mandate is to advance and support the success of B.C.’s creative sector. However, if a Client or Partner has violated the code of conduct, Creative BC will take steps to address the incident with the lenses of fairness and equity. If it deems, in its discretion, that their actions are in breach of this code, Creative BC may refuse or limit access to its programs, services, and activities.
Escalating consequences for violation of this Code may include:
- a restorative conversation in which the client or partner’s attention is drawn to the impact of their behaviour, explained by the manager with reference to our code of conduct and commitment to employees that they may enjoy a respectful workplace;
- the issue of a warning, referencing the Code of Conduct and how the client has behaved in a way that is not in line with the Code of Conduct;
- if an organization or company, a different individual may be requested by Creative BC as the key contact for the application, project, or service;
- any current applications, projects, or services in progress and associated with the individual may be suspended;
- the individual may be deemed as not in good standing with Creative BC, and therefore ineligible to receive funding for a period as determined on a case-by-case basis;
- the individual may be barred from interactions with the Creative BC workplace or future Creative BC events.
