Creative BC Congratulates 2014 Western Magazine Award Winners
More than half the awards presented at the 2014 Western Magazine Awards held on September 26th in Vancouver, BC went to BC-based magazine publishers, demonstrating the enormous depth and range of talent that exists in our magazine industry.
Organized annually by the Western Magazine Awards Foundation (WMAF), the Western Magazine Awards honour and acknowledge editorial excellence in magazine writing, photography, illustration and art direction. This year’s 31 recipients were selected from among 136 submissions received from across Western Canada.
The 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award – the highest award of the night – went to Brian Kaufman, Founder, Publisher, and Editor in Chief of subTerrain: Strong Words for a Polite Nation, for his contribution to the magazine publishing industry. What began as a dream for Kaufman – an idea of a literary rebellion – is now one of Canada’s leading literary journals, all housed in a modest office on Main Street, Vancouver, BC.
“Brian has been responsible for launching the careers of a new breed of writers and artists onto the literary scene in Vancouver and indeed the rest of country,” said Margaret Reynolds, Executive Director of the Association of Book Publishers of BC.
