BC’s First Indigenous Music Retreat
Creative BC and the First Peoples’ Cultural Council launched the first Indigenous Music Retreat from May 6–11, 2018, at the Brew Creek Centre, in Whistler, B.C.
The Indigenous Music Retreat was open to First Nations, Métis and Inuit music artists who demonstrate a lived commitment to a career in music.
Twenty-one emerging and dedicated artists from across BC were selected to participate, to develop and expand their careers in today’s music industry. The retreat included workshops, roundtable discussions, one-on-one consultations and coaching, and evening showcases. Established industry professionals and experienced music mentors shared their knowledge, skills, wisdom and experience. Mentors included Kinnie Star, Ronnie Dean Harris, Michel Bruyere, MJ Dandeneau and Doug Cox.
