Gord Grdina Quartet
Juno award winner Gordon Grdina is a Oud/Guitarist whose sound is a combination of his interests in mainstream jazz, free-form improvisation and Arabic classical music. A protégé of jazz great Gary Peacock, he is a well-respected contributor to the jazz and world music scenes constantly being sought out for projects that need a fresh sound.
He has collaborated and studied with Gary Peacock, Paul Motian, Mats Gustafsson, Evan Parker, Colin Stetson, Samuel Blaser, Jerry Granelli, David Tronzo, Fredrik Ljungkvist, Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten, Fred Lomberg-Holm, Han Bennik, Wilbert De Joode, Francois Houle, Benoit Delbeq, Jeb Bishop, Eric Boeren, Michael Moore, Matt Mitchell, Jon Irabagon, Michael Blake, Jim Black and many more.
His latest ensemble, the Gordon Grdina Quartet, is inspired by the complexity of Bartok, the freedom of Ornette Coleman, the intensity of Sound Garden and the delicacy of Webern. His carefully formed quartet combines the traditions of jazz improvisation, complex and memorable compositions and a dynamic freedom to the music that ebbs and flows with each tune. The side musicians are all world-renowned NYC based performers: Russ Lossing – piano, Oscar Noriega – Alto sax/clarinet, and Satoshi Takeishi – drums.
Gordon Grdina Quartet’s upcoming debut full-length album is a product of Gordon’s desire to explore the epicenter of creative instrumental music, New York City as the next adventure of artistic and professional growth.
