New Live Events Training Program at Cowichan Valley’s Laketown Ranch: apply now!

Mar 14, 2022

If you are interested in this program, apply now! Program participants will be confirmed and contacted by April 4, 2022. The program runs from April 25 – 30, 2022.

This six day, hands-on program is meant specifically for those seeking experiences and opportunities in the live event industry. Participants will learn the basics of safety, operations, sound and light production, crowd control and management, tenting, machinery, and other skills needed for the presentation of concerts, conventions, festivals, and other live events.

All of this will take place at one of Canada’s largest outdoor venues, Laketown Ranch – home to Sunfest, Laketown Shakedown, and more. This new education program will be offered by Wideglide Entertainment Ltd. (“Wideglide”), the Cowichan Valley-based company behind the Sunfest, Laketown Shakedown and Laketown Rock Music Festivals.

At the end of the 6-day course, participants will take part in an industry Q&A, and be provided with supported connections to employment with regional/provincial festivals, production companies, and other organizations working in the live music sector.

To improve equity within the live music industry, Wideglide will be reserving 30% of program spaces for students from groups that have been historically underrepresented in the live music industry (BIPOC, women, LGBTQ2S, persons with diverse abilities).

Thanks to support from Creative BC’s Music Industry Initiatives program, participation will be offered at no cost to all participants. A maximum of 18 learners will be accepted into the inaugural cycle of this program.
