ADVANCE and Toronto Metropolitan University seek survey input from Canadian Black music professionals
Are you a Canadian Black music industry professional aged 18 or over? Do you have 20 minutes to spare?
Working in partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University’s Diversity Institute, ADVANCE – Canada’s Black music collective – is conducting a new research study on the diversity, value, and barriers faced by Black music and music creators in the Canadian music industry.
Launched on August 29, 2022, and closing on October 13, 2022, the survey seeks to inform the development of an industry-wide action plan that will inform and impact the experiences of all equity-seeking groups. Survey findings will highlight the impact of Black music from an economic perspective and illustrate systemic barriers faced by this community. These results will help to shape subsequent conversations on representation and equity in the Canadian music industry. Incentives for survey completion are available.
ADVANCE focuses on professional development, advocacy, music industry careers, funding opportunities, and the celebration of the community of Canadian Black music. In doing so, it facilitates opportunities for emerging music industry professionals, and ensures tangible improvement and opportunity for Black professionals at all levels within the music industry.
