It is with immense sadness that we honour the life and legacy of our beloved friend and colleague at the Canadian Media Producers Association, Tracey Friesen.
Tracey was an irreplaceable figure in British Columbia’s motion picture industry. Her decades-long career in media production was driven by her unwavering passion for the industry’s success, leaving a mark across every facet of the field.
As a highly accomplished executive producer, Tracey was dedicated to advancing both environmental sustainability and social progress. Her advocacy made a profound difference in the industry, where her leadership helped establish new standards for environmental responsibility and social change.
Tracey was a key contributor to Creative BC and its initiatives. She played an integral role in our Reel Green™ initiative, contributing to the advisory, circular economy, and national committees. Her efforts were instrumental in promoting sustainable production practices, empowering producers and crews to make environmentally conscious choices across Canada.
Her commitment to progress extended beyond sustainability. Tracey was deeply dedicated to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within the industry. As a Governance Committee Member for Creative BC’s Creative Pathways™ initiative, she championed opportunities for underrepresented communities, working to create pathways for emerging talent and support systemic change.
“Tracey’s passing is an immense loss. A cherished friend and devoted colleague, her work made an incredible contribution to both our efforts and the cultural fabric of the motion picture industry,” said Prem Gill, CEO of Creative BC.” I had the privilege of working alongside Tracey for many years, and she was unwaveringly dedicated to everything she did. On behalf of Creative BC, we extend our deepest condolences to Tracey’s family and loved ones. We are committed to continuing her legacy through our work and beyond.”
Tracey Friesen’s influence on our community, her steadfast commitment to meaningful change, and her remarkable achievements leave an enduring legacy in B.C.’s motion picture industry. Her extraordinary passion, kindness, and purpose will continue to inspire us all.
