BC Film Commission wins Film Commission of the Year at the 2025 Global Production Awards
The BC Film Commission at Creative BC was presented with a Global Production Award for outstanding work in the Film Commission of the Year category at the 2025 awards, which took place at the Cannes Film Festival this week, which saw over 270 of the industry’s top executives and producers in attendance.
The motion picture industry in B.C. has long been recognized as a global leader in attracting and supporting domestic and international productions, contributing to British Columbia’s status as a top filming destination. As part of Creative BC, the Commission plays a pivotal role in strengthening the province’s creative economy by connecting global productions with B.C.’s world-class crews, infrastructure, locations, and services.
The Global Production Awards celebrate outstanding and sustainable work from the world of film and TV production, locations, and studios. Acknowledging great initiatives, projects, and work that are setting the highest standards in sustainability, diversity, and ensuring local economies benefit from the production taking place in their markets.
The awards are judged by some of the industry’s biggest names from across the globe, including Jay Roewe, senior vice president at HBO; Valerie Guerette-Langlais, head of production tax and incentives at A24; and Veronica Sullivan, head of global production external affairs and state and local government at NBCUniversal.
The Film Commission of the Year is awarded to a film commission with an established international reputation for exemplary service to productions and a top filming destination of choice. This award recognizes a Film Commission’s efforts to attract filmmakers, problem-solving approach, customer service, creativity, community contribution, and why the location is proving so popular across locations, incentives, studios, crew, and more.
The judging panel was put together by specialist strategy consultancy Olsberg SPI. The Global Production Awards were supported by GOLD PARTNER: South Side Studios Dallas, SILVER PARTNERS: Brand South Africa, On-Set Location Services, and Shinfield Studios, CATEGORY PARTNERS: Calgary Economic Development, Dallas Film Commission, Edmonton Screen, and SUPPORTING PARTNER: Olsberg SPI.
