New Sustainable Animation Toolkit includes North America’s first carbon calculator made specifically for unique animation pipelines, and a sustainable animation guide designed to help animation producers produce more sustainably
September 22, 2026 — Producing for the Planet (P4P), the nonprofit that helps independent media producers reduce the environmental impact of their work, today announced the launch of its Animation Toolkit. The suite of tools includes a guide titled “Drawn to Change: A Climate Guide for Animation Producers and Studios,” and a new carbon calculator designed specifically for animation production.
Most carbon calculators and guides for the entertainment industry are built for live-action shoots. Animation emissions look different: driven largely by render farm and compute hours, studio energy use, and the travel and outsourcing that come with distributed teams. P4P built the Animation Toolkit to give animation producers access to tools to estimate their footprint and embrace sustainability in their production practices.

The Animation Toolkit is part of P4P’s broader effort to make emissions reduction practical and accessible for independent producers.
