QUOTES
Honourable Spencer Chandra Herbert, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport
“Magazines bring unique and diverse stories to life. They connect us to new ideas and perspectives. B.C.’s magazine publishers play a vital role in showcasing our culture and creativity to readers at home and around the world. In times of uncertainty, it’s more important than ever that we support B.C. publishers to reach new markets, form valuable industry connections, and expand their audiences. I’m excited to see how our publishers continue to grow and thrive with this support!”
Prem Gill, CEO, Creative BC
“Creative BC is proud to support these 18 B.C. magazine publishers in expanding their reach worldwide. The Magazine Travel Support program helps them access new markets and business opportunities, strengthening both their individual growth and the broader industry. While the magazine publishing industry faces its challenges, its continued growth is part of the fabric of B.C.’s creative economy, which contributed $117 million in total GDP in 2023.”
Sylvia Skene, Executive Director, Magazine Association of BC
“B.C.’s magazine publishers find Creative BC’s Travel Support program to be invaluable in their efforts to reach potential readers and advertisers, connect with other publishers to discuss challenges to their businesses, strategic responses, and innovative approaches, and keep up their industry skills and knowledge.”
Fiona Bramble, REP Here in Canada, Program Recipient
“The magazine industry faces challenges on many fronts. One vital way for magazine publishers to support one another and strengthen the industry is through sharing and mobilizing knowledge and promising practices. However, travel to critical conferences and trade shows is an expense many magazines, especially smaller publications, cannot bear. Creative BC’s Magazine Publishers Travel Support program has enabled Vancouver Island-based Here Magazine to attend Canadian and international conferences where invaluable networking opportunities have led to content-sharing agreements, the adoption of digital innovations, and strengthened industry and stakeholder relationships.”
