2024 TAIWANfest: BECOMING ME
In a dialogue with Spain, and inspired by the linguistic transformations and migrations of people, this year TaiwanFest is exploring how our past leads us to become who we are today. Like different parts of Spain speak different dialects and languages, Taiwan is a place where multilingual and multicultural people learn to co-exist.
From Min-nan to Hakka to Mandarin, the Dutch to the Spanish, the Philippines to Canada, let’s trace our cultural identity through the languages we share. The language of music is one that can be translated beyond words. In collaboration with Jade Music Fest, TAIWANfest presents artists from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Canada that delve into the relationship between the artist and the mother tongue. What kind of inspirations can be found in the various sounds of Chinese-languages? How does our diasporic backgrounds add to the creativity found onstage.
