Sep 13, 2024

Vancouver, B.C. (September 13, 2024) – Today, the BC Film Commission at Creative BC is proud to announce expanded service with a newly created role that builds capacity, strategic opportunity, and enhanced resources for British Columbia’s world-leading motion picture production industry. Katharine Pavoni joins as Deputy Director to focus on industry stewardship, innovation, and sustainability through oversight of the province’s marquis collaborative initiatives, Reel Green™, Creative Pathways™, and the regional services that drive and promote production across B.C.’s unparalleled World of Looks™ and locations.

Ms. Pavoni is well-equipped to advance B.C.’s film industry, bringing more than 15 years of industry experience, including her previous role as Manager, Industry and Community Affairs at the Commission, and most recently as Director of Industry Programs and Services, Actsafe. As Deputy Director, she will champion high standards of practice, inclusivity, and sustainability within the industry, aiming to demonstrate measurable progress and impact.

Ms. Pavoni’s efforts will showcase B.C.’s industry services and foster partnerships that advance a clean and inclusive film-friendly environment, workforce development, and world-class production services. Backed by government investment, Creative BC’s designation of incremental, senior resources within the BC Film Commission demonstrates a strategic intent to bolster the Commission’s strength and ability to drive a strong, sustainable, and competitive industry.

The Deputy Director reports directly to BC Film Commissioner Marnie Gee, responsible for marketing and delivering on the province’s highly acclaimed, full-service production hub promise through collaborative partnership with local industry association, Screen BC.

“We are thrilled to welcome Katharine Pavoni to help us ensure a strong and sustainable future for British Columbia’s film and television industry,” said Marnie Gee, BC Film Commissioner. “Katharine is well-connected, deeply respected, tremendously experienced. The industry trusts her for big and inclusive thinking, bridge-building, and for getting things done in a good, green, and viable way—everything we believe in at the BC Film Commission.”

British Columbia’s best-in-class, Pacific Time, script-to-screen motion picture industry services are united and proven in the business of creativity, lauded as North America’s third-largest foreign location film centre and long dubbed Hollywood North. From cutting-edge infrastructure and excellent tax credits, to dynamic, experienced cast and crew, B.C. is just a three-hour flight from Los Angeles. Its on-time, on-budget advantage and black napkin production services have been accessibly centralized since 1978 within the BC Film Commission.
