AMPED comes to Vancouver to uplift the Black music industry June 17 – 19, 2022
In celebration of Black Music Month, AMPED (ADVANCE Music Professional and Entertainment Dialogues) will occur in-person, in Vancouver, from June 17 – 19, 2022. AMPED is a summit and complementary networking party, focused on celebrating Black music, and the uplifting of the Black music business professionals in Canada. The event is hosted and produced by the ADVANCE Black Music Collective, based in Ontario.
AMPED focuses on professional development, music industry careers, funding opportunities, and the celebration of the community and Black music. It aims to reach over 1,000 Black music artists, entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and others who work in the industry across Canada. In doing so, it facilitates opportunities for emerging music industry professionals, and ensures tangible improvement of Black professionals at all levels within the music industry.
After a successful inaugural digital launch in 2021, AMPED 2022 will similarly share knowledge, resources, and best practices for the industry. The 2022 event will feature in-person and digital elements in order to provide access for those not able to attend in-person. It will also be delivered in partnership with SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs.
Alongside live performances and informal and facilitated networking opportunities, the event schedule will include the following Saturday breakout sessions, facilitated by guest speakers drawn from industry, both locally, and across Canada:
Topic 1: The Mindset (Who?)
- Starting off the day with a focus on professional development, here are 7 effective ways you can upgrade your mindset.
Topic 2: The Product (What?)
- What are you trying to sell to the public?: A song? An artist? A service?
- What are the roles and responsibilities required to run your brand and business?
- How does the “company” determine where to sell/expose the product based on the consumer?
- Diversifying your portfolio
Topic 3: The Revenue (Where?)
- Identifying revenue streams to sustain your product
- Grant funding
- NFT
- Sync Placements
- Negotiation
- Crowdfunding, etc.
Topic 4 – The Why and The When? / Q&A
- Closing off the day, what is the sustaining “why” behind your business and artistry?
- What is your next step?
