Reel Green™ Vendor Spotlight: Driving Force

Mar 27, 2024

Driving Force, a Reel Green™ Advisory Partner and eco-friendly vendor is driving sustainability within the film industry! Across Canada, Driving Force is known for solving problems, keeping promises, and helping communities. Their sustainable role in the Vancouver film industry highlights their dedication to being a force for good with a greener future.

Driving Force: Leading the Charge in Sustainable Film Production

1. How are you partnering with the Film Industry to make it more sustainable?
We are partnering with every part of the film industry to promote sustainability by leading the charge in electric vehicle adoption within the Canadian rental vehicle sector. Our journey in this initiative began over five years ago when we first started supplying the film industry with the Tesla Model 3. Today, we take pride in our diverse and eco-friendly fleet that has particularly focused on the needs of the British Columbia and lower mainland film communities including more than more than 200 electric or hybrid vehicles.

A key highlight of our commitment to sustainability is the Lion 6, a fully electric cube van that addresses the specific requirements of film productions. The Lion 6 stands out not only for its zero-emission profile but also as a part of British Columbia’s largest commercial fleet of Class 6, 5-ton full electric cube vans. By providing these innovative and environmentally friendly vehicle options, our aim is to be a partner to the film industry by significantly reducing its carbon footprint and encouraging a shift towards more sustainable production practices.

2. What is a recent achievement / green win you’ve had?
One of our recent achievements in our sustainability journey is the growth of our electric and hybrid vehicle fleet, which now represents 7.5% of our total fleet in the Lower Mainland. We’re also excited about our investment in portable DC fast chargers. These chargers are a big step forward because they can be used on film sets to provide quick, eco-friendly power solutions for electric vehicles. Easily powered by location generators or studio power, they are portable and facilitate quick charging, contributing to a more sustainable film production process.

3. What are the day-to-day operations like within your business? What do you enjoy most out of it?
At Driving Force, our everyday work involves providing a variety of vehicles for rent, sale, or lease all over Canada. We’ve got vans, cars, and commercial trucks available, making sure you can find what you need, wherever you are in the country. In a nutshell, we provide tailored solutions for complex needs.

Each day, we help people and businesses. Some might need to rent a truck to get through a busy season or replace a broken-down vehicle quickly. Others might be looking for a dependable van for a specific project. Some may need our help managing an entire fleet with our data-driven insights.

We’re proud to help our customers make greener choices, like using EVs that help cut down on pollution. When our customers are happy because they can rely on us for all options, we know we have done our job. And when they buy or lease from us, they know they’re getting a reliable vehicle backed by our promise- promises we keep. We merge safety and sustainability with our electric fleets and we’re proud to offer one of Canada’s largest commercial rental electric fleets for rent or lease in B.C., Alberta and Ontario. Every day, we aim to show that it’s possible to do good business while looking after our planet.

4. What makes you different from other sustainable businesses?
What sets us apart from other sustainable businesses in our sector is our all-encompassing approach to being eco-friendly, which goes beyond just what we offer our customers. It’s about how we run our entire company. Our commitment to being sustainable is a big part of what we believe in and what we plan to do in the future.

At many Driving Force locations, you’ll find electric vehicle charging stations. Our Calgary office is powered by solar energy. Plus, our commitment to using eco-friendly lighting and moving towards digitizing paper products helps us cut down on our environmental footprint even further.

5. How do you partner / work with the Reel Green community?
We partner with the Reel Green community by working together towards our common goal of sustainability. We support Reel Green’s mission to cut down pollution by offering cleaner, greener vehicle choices. Our aim is to set a standard, helping to lower emissions in both the rental industry and the film industry, and guiding them towards a more environmentally friendly future.
