Canadian Live Music Association Launches Economic Impact Assessment – take the survey today!
On April 30, 2024, the Canadian Live Music Association (CLMA) announced the launch of Hear and Now: Understanding the Economic Power and Potential of Canada’s Live Music Industry. This offering marks the first-ever Economic Impact Assessment (EIA) of the live music sector in Canada.
Undertaken in partnership with the consulting firm Nordicity, this survey will quantify the direct, indirect, and induced economic impacts of the live music sector, including tourism and fiscal impacts at the national level. The study will also explore a range of economic indicators, spanning GDP, employment, income, tax revenues, and overall business activity. The findings in the EIA will form a cornerstone for evaluating existing policies, shaping future implementation strategies, and fostering discussion among stakeholders. This study comes at a critical moment, as many in the Canadian live music industry continue face rising costs, labor shortages, and other systemic economic obstacles.
This survey is directed at, and intended to be completed by, the live music industry as a whole. ‘Live music industry’ includes any industry association, business, organization, or individual involved in any aspect of concert production, promotion, and/or execution (e.g. artists, venues, festivals, agents, promoters, publicists, managers, suppliers, technicians, and staff).
The survey will remain active until Thursday, June 6, 2024. This project has received support from Amplify BC’s Music Industry Initiatives program.
