Jasper Sloan Yip

Nov 18, 2018

From a youth with a keen desire to jam to his own beat (his first performance being on the stage he built in his own backyard), to an established, multi-genre singer/songwriter, Jasper Sloan Yip has become a staple within the Canadian indie music scene. Backed by a dynamic and versatile band, Jasper transcends the status quo offering a unique mix of contemporary folk, rock, and pop.

Jasper’s 2010 debut, Every Day and All at Once collected widespread praise; its songs charted on college radio, appeared on network television, and landed him showcases at festivals all over Canada. His first single "Kiddo" received regular play on CBC Radio 3 followed by the single "Slowly" that spent 10 weeks on the CBC Radio 3 top 30, making it to number 4.

After a successful tour with Every Day and All at Once Jasper’s sophomore album, Foxtrot, delivered the natural progression of a talented singer/songwriter both maturing and experimenting with his sound. The earnest naiveté that characterized his first release was replaced with pensive introspection and expansive instrumentation. It paid off.  The single "Show Your Teeth" was widely received gathering airtime nationally and internationally and triggering another nationwide tour.  It also landed Jasper a $10,000 "Best of BC" award, a spot on CBC Radio 2 and 3’s Best Songs of 2013 lists, and Foxtrot was named one of the year’s top ten indie records by The Province.

After a much-earned hiatus, Jasper Sloan Yip is back recording his third studio album Post Meridiem. Building on the foundation of Foxtrot, Post Meridiem will be a pop record incorporating elements of folk, rock and chamber music. His unique orchestration of strings and wind instruments into the pop/rock soundscape (that garnered him heavy national and international radio play with songs like "Show Your Teeth"), has been refined to a new level of enchantment and sonic delight.
