Mad For Joy

Jan 29, 2020

Sound Recording recipient, Mad For Joy, just released their new full-length album Garden Of the Muse featuring 12 original songs and one cover of "Old Man" by Neil Young. The duo features Adam Kerby and Jocelyn Hallett, both based on Gabriola Island, a place that inspired many of the songs on the record.

Adam and Jocelyn met through Vancouver Community College's Jazz program and have been collaborating ever since. The recording also features Max Ley on drums, and Jason Smith on bass, both recent graduates of the VCC School of Music.

Garden of the Muse represents all the textures of beauty and emotion that you might find in a muse's sonic garden. It also weaves in the 'colours' that can be seen when listening to music for individuals who experience synesthesia.

For the album promotion, the band ran a sweepstakes contest for a 3-day getaway, wellness retreat at their place on Gabriola, including a private concert and private yoga instruction from certified yoga instructor, Lucy St John. The yoga retreat ties in to a new blog the group has started, which talks about wellness, mental health, and its relevance in the music industry.

This album was recorded and produced by Michael Nowak, mastered by Craig Waddell from Gotham City Studios in Vancouver, and with artwork by Vicky Bowes.

Garden of the Muse released digitally on January 15th and can be found streaming here on Spotify and Apple Music.
