Amanda Sum

Feb 29, 2020

Amanda Sum is a Vancouver-based performer who dances between theatre and music. Sum's debut single and music video, Groupthink, recorded at Monarch Studios was released September 2020, and the sound recording was supported as part of the first Vancouver Music Fund program last year. Her second single, Mary Shelley, was released soon after. All her sound recordings were made with an all-female team and feature all Asian female musicians. Amanda's music is supported by Creative BC, the City of Vancouver, and FACTOR Canada.

Amanda's writing is witty and warm. Her music has been described as "odd, in a completely satisfying way". She floats on top of the indie-pop genre, sometimes dipping into jazz or visiting alternative folk. In both theatre and music, Amanda values rhythm and rigour. She is interested in the intersection of these disciplines, and strives to create work that marries the two.
