Chicken-Like Birds
“A funny, unique, truly memorable folk-country duo”. That’s what the Permanent Rain Press had to say about Chicken-Like Birds after listening to their new EP Moving On that was released in March, 2017. The two have been making great strides with their original swing, country blues and ragtime tunes that are applicable to the 20th century but are very much influenced by the music of the 1920s and 1930s. Appearing at festivals across Western Canada last year, 2017 finds the duo on their first cross Canada tour, going all the way to St. John’s Newfoundland to support their latest release.
“The title ‘Moving On’ provides the theme. There are correlations to it all across the album. ‘Hard Times’ is a direct correlation, with the lyrics ‘It’s time to move on, to something new…’ it helps to remind me to push on through and improvise through hardships,” states Chicken-Like Birds.
“The song on the EP ‘In the City’ is loosely based on Vancouver. The line ‘You can furnish your place, with the treasures from the alleyways’ is something that we did when we lived there.”
Creative BC is proud to support Chicken-Like Birds as part of the BC Music Fund’s Sound Recording Program.
