Circularity Toolkit

Developed by the Reel Green™ Circular Economy Committee, the Circularity Toolkit supports the growth of a circular economy to reduce waste within the motion picture industry.  It’s an evolving resource that orients, engages and services productions, municipalities and individuals to help the film industry adapt the tools to embrace a circular economy.

A circular economy is one that minimizes waste and makes the most of available resources. In contrast to the traditional linear economy, which follows a “take, make, dispose” model, a circular economy aims to keep products, materials, and resources in use for as long as possible. It emphasizes recycling, reusing and refurbishing to extend the lifespan of products and reduce their overall environmental impact.

Who is the toolkit for?

Set Designers and Builders

For art departments and construction teams looking to embrace these practices and contribute to a greener film industry while maintaining the creative and aesthetic standards of their sets.

Costume Departments

For teams that are working to minimize the impact of their costume footprint through rentals and repurposing.

Film Production Crews

Film crew who choose, schedule, or can influence power source decisions for a production. The toolkit encourages and advocates for circular economy principles throughout the production process.
